Health and beauty procedures were carried out this Thursday (20) for female prisoners in Amapa prison. Among the services, they received medical care, assistance, counseling, and vaccinations. The target audience were the inmates and maids of the women’s complex of the Instituto Penitenciária do Amapá (Iapen).
The program was promoted by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Oncology Patients United for Life and Love (Pouva).
“The importance of this measure is to encourage women to self-examine, because we know that through early diagnosis we can beat cancer. We know that there are women who are discriminated against by society, so it is a way for us to come here and explain, motivate them and bring a word of faith them,” stressed Léa Learte, one of the event’s organizers.

Oncology patients testified to servants and inmates, highlighting the concern to prevent breast cancer and other diseases affecting women.
The goal of the NGO was to train health-promoting multipliers to fight breast cancer in the prison system.
There were also haircuts, therapeutic massages, eyebrow styling, hair cutting and gift distribution. Inmates also donated their hair, like Amanda Pessoa.
“I had already seen on TV about the NGO, and then I was so interested that I talked to my guys and said I would make a donation if I had the opportunity. Then it turned out that they came here and I had the opportunity to make a donation,” Amanda said.
