According to a survey published by Datafolha Thursday night, ten days before the most polarizing election in Brazil’s history, Lula da Silva has 47% of voting intentions, compared to 33% for the current president and re-election candidate.
Thus, in one week, the former president increased his advantage over the current head of state from 12 to 14 percentage points, according to DataFolha.
The poll, the largest to date by the country’s main demographic (listed at 6,754 voters in 343 cities between Tuesday and Thursday), showed Lula da Silva’s voting intentions grew by two percentage points while Bolsonaro’s intentions remained stable.
According to Dattafulha, who came in polls with a margin of error of two points, the result left the Labor leader with the possibility of being elected without the need for a second round, scheduled for October 30, if there is no candidate. He got more than half of the correct votes.
This is due to the fact that, taking into account valid votes, i.e. deducting blanks and voids, intent to vote for Lula da Silva rose from 48% last week to 50% in the poll that ended Thursday. Stop at 35%.
The former president’s strategy (2003-2010) in the final days of the campaign was to seek a “helpful vote” for voters still betting on third candidates to try to secure their election in the first round.
Datafolha also simulated the second-round scenario, which confirmed Lula da Silva’s favoritism. In this case, the progressive leader will be elected with 54% of the vote against 38% of Bolsonaro’s voting intentions.
This possibility also reflects candidate rejection rates, with 52% of Brazilian voters, according to this week’s poll, saying they would not vote for Bolsonaro at all and 39% saying the same about Lula da Silva.
Brazil’s presidential elections are scheduled for the first round on October 2 and the second, if necessary, on the 30th.
Ten candidates are competing in the Brazilian presidential elections: Jair Bolsonaro, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Ciro Gomez, Simone Tebet, Luis Philippe DeVila, Soraya Tronic, Emile, Leonardo Pericles, Sofia Manzano and Vera Lucia.
