A fire broke out on Friday, at 3:50 p.m. (local time), in a telecommunications building more than 200 meters high in downtown Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, China. The fire was put out in the afternoon, and about 280 firefighters, backed by 36 firefighting equipment, took part in the fighting.
According to telecom operator China Telecom, citing Washington PostThere were no reports of deaths or injuries.
According to state broadcaster CCTV, the China Telecom building, which houses offices spread over 42 floors, “greatly burned,” sparking a wave of smoke that eventually spread across the city.
In videos released by the media, firefighters can be seen battling the flames as staff run out of the building, whose face was completely burned.
By 4:30 p.m., efforts to evacuate the building continued. According to China Telecom, communications in the country were not affected either.
