The Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro (SMS-Rio) has reported that because the Ministry of Health has not sent new contributions of CoronaVac requested since last month, vaccinating children aged 3 to 4 years with the first dose (D1) against will contract Covid-19. Paralyzed in the city as of Tuesday (08/09). Application of the second dose (D2) for this audience, scheduled to begin August 13, is guaranteed with the vaccine designated for this purpose.
From July 15 to August 8, SMS-Rio units vaccinated 39,319 children aged 3 to 4 years with the first (D1) dose of CoronaVac, the only dose authorized by Anvisa for use in the public. When immunization for this age group was approved by the federal agency, the municipality of Rio had doses of the vaccine in stock, allowing for the immediate start of application.
Despite requests for new contributions, there is currently no expectation of when a new shipment will be sent by the Ministry of Health.
