The drag queen tours UK schools
08/04/2022
“Drag Queen Story Time” at children’s schools in England is causing controversy. Sab Samuel is a drag queen who visits schools and tells stories that, she says, explain genderless emotions to children. “A lot of kids out there aren’t given LGBT role models because it’s taboo. Role models are like oxygen, if you don’t have them you can’t breathe and we’re dying for LGBTQ+ people,” she said.
The presence of drag queens in schools in the region is controversial, as many do not agree that children and teenagers receive this type of class. The local Reading Council said that because it was a ticketed event, the audience’s stance was disappointing and parents were aware of the nature of the presentation. A spokesperson said the content was funny and age-appropriate. Samuel, the drag queen, said she does events for children aged 3 to 11 and already has 70 events planned for the next few weeks in the UK.
