Spanish police are investigating 50 cases of women being bitten by needles at nightclubs and music festivals. In Catalonia alone there have been more than 20 cases.
The complaint, filed in recent weeks, talks about injuries caused by a bite to the leg in the middle of a Barcelona nightclub.
I was with my friends, I suddenly noticed a bite in my left leg. In about 10 minutes of the sting, I fainted. I fell to the ground a few times and they had to hold me because I was heavy, and I couldn’t do anything.
The report, which was shared on social media, is one of about 50 that Spanish police have heard since last month. About half are in Catalonia alone.
Except for one case, they are all about women, always in clubs and festivals.
Some victims say they were bitten by men dressed in black. They reported dizziness, vomiting, and tingling in their legs and arms. But so far no chemicals have been detected and there have been no reports of robberies or sexual assaults.
Regional governments in Catalonia, Extremadura, the Valencian Community and the Basque Country provided protocols for action.
The attacks reported in Spain are similar to those in other European countries since last year. In the UK, there have been 1,300 cases. In France 800.
