UK Attorney General Suella Braverman said she rejected a diversity training program in her department because it was “full of left-wing ideas”.
Writing in the Daily Mail, Braverman compared the Department of “Diversity, Equality and Inclusion” (DEI) to the “witch hunters of the Middle Ages”.
He said he was “horrified” last year when hundreds of public prosecutors spent almost 2,000 hours of their taxpayer-funded money attending lectures given by the charity. LGBT Stonewall, “Micro-Incivilities,” Different “Life Experiences,” and “How to Be a Straight Partner.”
‘Absolutely Dangerous’
During training sessions, Braverman said, “If a black person says something offensive, government attorneys are told it’s offensive and they don’t have the right to question it.”
“How does that fit into the rule of law or due process?” she asked.
He added: “This kind of thinking is harmful in other fields, but in legal cases it is absolutely dangerous. It does nothing to build unity and encourage support, but it continues to emphasize difference, create a sense of ‘otherness’ and pit different groups against each other.
‘Witch Hunters of the Middle Ages’
Braverman told his staff to abandon the training program, saying, “We must take this divisive attitude seriously and call it what it is: a new religion, a new priestly caste.”
He compared the “fanatics” who believed in this “new religion” to the “witch hunters of the Middle Ages” who “never tire of rooting out the infidels.”
He also criticized religious chanters who said that “none of these approaches are accepted in modern Britain because they are too afraid of dissent”.
“Britain needs a lot of things, but it certainly doesn’t need it wake up Controlling our thoughts,” he said.
Braverman, who entered the Conservative Party leadership race last month but was later dropped, backed Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, one of the two finalists, to continue her work to combat “dangerous identity politics”.
The attorney general said he was “particularly pleased” that Truss was committed to scrapping diversity jobs across the UK government.
Truss’s campaign said there were at least 326 posts in government departments and that cutting them could save taxpayers £12 million ($14.5 million) a year.
‘Waste spending’
Braverman told Sky News that the training materials used were “filled with left-wing views on race and gender, white privilege”.
He said the “thousands of hours of training” in government departments came at a “huge cost to the taxpayer”.
“It’s divisive, not inclusive,” he said. “It was paternalistic, not empowering.
“It’s based on the assumption that as an ethnic Asian woman with working-class roots, I must be a victim, necessarily oppressed. It’s a misconception. I think it’s divisive. It destroys society, it destroys the fabric of our country.
He called it a “waste of money,” adding that he doesn’t think “at the end of the day, taxpayers want to spend their time with their public servants or their government lawyers.”
