The Chevening Scholarship Scheme, an initiative in the UK offering full scholarships to students from more than 160 countries (including Brazil), will open applications for one-year postgraduate courses at several universities next Tuesday (2). Interested candidates can apply till 2nd November site.
The scholarship covers everything from UK visa issuance to university administration fees. In addition, selected students receive a monthly stipend for personal expenses and financial assistance for settling in the country. The program awarded over 50,000 scholarships worldwide. Hopkins encourages young people to apply. “My message is that interested young people should apply because this is a unique opportunity and an enriching, life-changing experience,” he says, adding that the program targets people of all socioeconomic levels.
The scholarship holder must have at least two years of professional experience in a paid or unpaid internship. Volunteer work is also valid and counts as experience. Those responsible for the program also assess their willingness to apply the knowledge gained in the UK in their country of origin.
Selective process
The selection process is divided into two phases. First, the applicant registers through the program’s website and fills out an online form with the courses they wish to take. It submits the required documents, which include degrees, academic records, university acceptance letters and letters of recommendation.
In the second stage, applicants are invited to an interview in English at the British Embassy (in Brasilia) or in cities with a British Embassy (Belo Horizonte, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and São Paulo).
In the last cycle of the program (22-23), 50 Brazilians from 15 Brazilian states were selected. They will travel in September to study at 24 British universities in England, Scotland and Wales.
