Due to low meningitis vaccination coverage, the Araguaña Municipal Health Department, in the northern region of the state, has begun vaccinating health workers and children up to 10 years of age who have not yet received the dose.
The municipality hopes to vaccinate 6, 6000 health workers. The number of children will only be updated in February of next year, when the campaign ends. Doses have been available at UBS in the city since last Wednesday (22).
Low vaccination coverage against the disease since 2016. According to the Ministry of Health, there has been an increase in the number of children and young people infected with meningococcal diseases in the country.
To receive protection, professionals need to present a SUS card, CPF, vaccination card and proof that they are a health worker or trainee. For children, only parents or guardians must provide the vaccination booklet.
Meningitis is an inflammatory process that affects the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, called the meninges. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites can cause disease.
