Researchers from the Wonders of the Mekong Project announced on June 20 that a fisherman in Cambodia’s Mekong River has caught the world’s largest freshwater fish ever recorded. It is a freshwater stingray, weighing 300 kilograms.
“In our 20 years of searching for giant fish in rivers and lakes on six continents, these have been the largest freshwater fish we have found or documented anywhere in the world,” said biologist Zeb Hogan. BBC.
The fish was caught and brought back to the Mekong River in the middle of this month.
Zeb Hogan, who leads the Mekong Wonders Preservation Project, calls this discovery “wonderful.”
Hogan, who is also a professor at the University of Nevada, added.
