In the ranking of CEO pay disparities, SONAE’s Claudia Azevedo came in second, earning 1.6 million euros last year, 77 times more than the average wage of her workers.
Closing the top three is Mota-Engil, run by Gonçalo Moura Martins, whose annual income is 73.3 times higher than the company’s average salary.
Of the 14 out of 15 companies in the PSI-20 and three other companies analyzed by DECO (Cofina, Impresa and Novabase), salary disparity was more than 20 times higher in 11 of these companies, and between 2020 and 2021, they were The ratio between the average CEO and worker salary increased from 29.6 to 32.2.
The reason for this increase, according to DECO, is due above all to the increase in the variable pay of CEOs (+ 27.8%). In comparison, the average salaries of the remaining workers, in the same period, increased by only 2.7%.
