British couple Joe and Jess Thwaite won the biggest prize in the history of the EuroMillions, the UK lottery. The £184m prize draw equals more than £1bn at current prices and is the largest since 2019, when the prize draw was £170m.
On May 10, the couple found out that they had won the award, but the winners’ identities are not revealed unless they want to. This Thursday (19) the two decided to tell the public and participated in a press conference.
According to the British newspaper, The Guardian, Joe Thwaite verified the result via cell phone. He said, “When I saw the value, I dropped the cell phone. Then I picked it up again, and I looked again and thought it was in the thousands.”
Joe waited for the woman to wake up with the alarm clock to tell her the news, but Jess didn’t believe her and thought her husband was without glasses. “Don’t be stupid,” he said at the time.
After seeing that her husband was right, Jess went to work as usual and decided to tell her mother on the way. Joe asked her not to reveal everything, but she couldn’t hide it because her mother-in-law already knew the value. “This award is a huge relief to my entire family, we’ve been struggling with the bills and all of your stuff for a long time,” Jess said.
