The Kerbal 2 space program will remain stable for much longer. The developer Star Theory has postponed the game’s release to early 2023.
Creative Director Nate Simpson explained in project forums and in a video message that the design of the space flight simulator has “enormous technological complexity” and the team needs more time to ensure it is refined. In the video posted below, Simpson explains by saying:
“We have also set very high standards for quality. The game is a must [perform] on a wide range of machines. The graphics should be second to none. The universe should be rich and interesting to explore. We set ourselves an internal goal of creating an authentic and amazing experience.”
Like its acclaimed predecessor, Kerbal Space Program 2 tasks players with leading a space program run by lovable green astronauts to build rockets and other spacecraft for space exploration. The game uses realistic physics to allow players to perform realistic orbital maneuvers used to locate and land celestial bodies. The sequel was first announced at Gamescom 2019 with a 2020 release window. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed development and forced the team to target Fall 2021. Kerbal Space 2 is targeted for PC upon launch, with console versions arriving later that year.
