Jose Sa, Joao Moutinho, Daniel Bodens, Trincao (replaced by Pedro Neto, at 75 minutes) and Fabio Silva (replaced by Cecchinho, at 90 + 1′) to start, Wolverhampton won 2-1, receiving Aston Villa.
The team, led by Bruno Lagg, returned to the winning ways in the English Premier League, in the match on Match Day 30, in which they soon began to draw, with Johnny Otto, in 7′, achieving the net after a rebound. Jose Sa avoided the equalizer with a Leon Bailey shot (31 minutes), and five minutes later, when he tried to clear the ball, Ashley Young ended up scoring an own goal, with Wolves leading in the first half with two goals.
In the supplementary stage, Wolves continued to lead the operations, until the last stage, when Aston Villa created a danger through Ole Watkins and Philip Coutinho, even in the 86th minute, Jose Sa scored a penalty kick and in a reduced Ole Watkins free kick.
Wolverhampton added 49 points and temporarily moved up to seventh place in the Premier League, one point ahead of Manchester United, who are sixth – the last point to gain access to European competitions – but with two games less.
Aston Villa have maintained 36 points and share ninth with Leicester City (three games late) and Southampton.
