The ex-wife of American billionaire Jeff Bezos has donated about 395 million euros to the non-governmental organization “Habitat for Humanity”, which builds homes for the homeless, the NGO announced Tuesday.
MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of the former Amazon chief, announced that at least half of his fortune, which is estimated to be worth $49.3 billion, will go to charity.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported today that Scott has donated $436 million (about 395 million euros) to Habitat for Humanity, which has already announced that 22.6 million euros will go to programs in the United States to help the poor get services. Decent accommodation.
The remaining €372 million will be distributed to missions located in 84 other countries, including aid for Ukrainian refugees who fled their country after the invasion of Russia.
Mackenzie Scott has made public donations to hundreds of organizations in a variety of areas, including food banks, financial and credit services for disadvantaged communities, and anti-discrimination legal groups.
Much of Scott’s fortune, 51, comes from the economic benefits of his divorce from Jeff Bezos in July 2019, which earned him the equivalent of $38 billion in Amazon stock.
AFP recalls that its value rose sharply as shares of the online retail giant on Wall Street soared.
In December last year, Scott announced that he would stop disclosing his donations, preferring to allow recipients to do so if they wished.
