Indirectly, Musk asserts that batteries are still the Achilles heel of these vehicles. While 400 miles (about 644 km) might seem like a lot, under real conditions, taking into account road speeds, cold weather, and carry-on passengers, the range could drop to 300 miles (about 483 km) or less.
Despite this fact, it is very likely that most Tesla owners would agree that range would be a priority, preferring it over acceleration.
