In the past 24 hours, Russian forces have made little progress on the march to Kyiv, “perhaps due to persistent logistical difficulties”, says the British Ministry of Defense’s daily report on the situation on the ground.
British analysts believe that Moscow has significantly underestimated the capacity of the Ukrainian defenses, which were able to withstand Russian attacks in several regions.
The document adds that Russia has increased the use of artillery north of Kyiv, in Kharkiv and in Chernihiv, which increases the risk of civilian casualties.
The British Ministry of Defense also reported an increase in night operations after Moscow failed to secure control of the airspace.
Seventy Ukrainian soldiers were killed this evening in an attack on a barracks in Okhtyrka, a town between Kyiv and Kharkiv.
The newspaper Okranska Pravda quoted the Ukrainian Defense Ministry this morning as saying that the Ukrainian forces had shot down five Russian planes and a helicopter in the Kyiv region.
In the south of the country, Russian forces attacked Cherson and the port city of Mariupol appears to be still under the control of the Ukrainian army. However, due to an air raid, the city in the Donetsk region was practically completely without electricity.
Russia’s Interfax news agency reported that Moscow had ordered troops stationed in the far east of the country to march towards the Caspian Sea, that is, closer to Europe.
