(Reuters) – Manchester City’s bumpy ride from Lisbon in a gale unnerved everyone before being diverted to Liverpool, coach Pep Guardiola on Friday praised the pilot for keeping his calm and the comfort of the passengers.
Winds from Storm Dudley rocked the team’s flight during the attempted landing in Manchester, until the pilot made the decision to stop the operation and fly to Liverpool for landing.
Storm Eunice also affected the UK, canceling more than 400 flights in the region.
Guardiola said: “When I saw the video, it was more terrifying than we felt at the time. It was turbulent… It was a moment when we were going down the slope and immediately the engine came back with full power and we went up.” reporters.
“At that moment we said something had happened. We had a pilot who did a very good job of talking to us and calming us down. We tried again to land in Manchester, and then we landed in Liverpool,” Guardiola said.
“The pilot was great, because we were very worried, but thanks to the way he talked to us, everyone calmed down.”
