Meta (formerly Facebook) has announced new privacy options for all Messenger users. From now on, all forms of communication on this platform will have end-to-end encryption.
Strictly speaking, the company has just released the option to encrypt all communications made in chat groups. Whether by voice, video or text messages, every message you send will stay away from prying eyes.
Messenger already encrypts all forms of its users’ communications
It is important to note that the Meta Communications platform already has end-to-end encryption. However, this reservation of privacy was only available in one-on-one conversations.
Now, however, chat groups will also benefit from this important security measure in their communications. After the testing period for this feature is over, it’s time to make it available to all Messenger users.
It is important to note that this feature will not be active by default. This means that if you want to start a group chat with encrypted messages, you will have to go to settings and create an encrypted chat room.
Once you select this type of connection, all members of the chat room will get the rest that all of their messages will be encrypted. Only participants in that room will be able to read messages sent by other members of the group.
All GIFs, stickers, reactions or replies are encrypted
It is important to note that with the new update, all expressions will be end-to-end encrypted. This also means that GIF files, attachments, Feedback or direct responses will be encrypted.
It will also be possible to forward a specific message to another contact. To do this, simply press and hold on a message and we will receive the option to resend the same message.
Another novelty was announced regarding the screenshot notifications. This will be triggered when someone takes a screenshot of any temporary message.
Last but not least, we have the introduction of verified badges that certify the authenticity of accounts, save media with a long press and edit photos or video directly in the app.
