The results of the Crown Prince’s tests came back positive for the second time. The couple join the list of nobles who have contracted the virus.
After they were infected in March 2021, on Saturday, Victoria and Daniel of Sweden tested positive for the Covid-19 virus again, the royal palace confirmed. “The Crown Prince, who has been fully vaccinated, is suffering from cold symptoms but is feeling fine,” the statement read. The husband, who has already received all three doses, needs more attention, as he is part of an at-risk group because in 2009 he underwent a kidney transplant.
“In accordance with current regulations, the family has self-isolated at home” and “contact has been quickly traced,” the royal correspondence added. The heir was diagnosed after Victoria’s parents, King Carl XVI Gustaf, 75, and Queen Silvia, 78, received three doses of the vaccine, which tested positive last Monday.
Because of the quarantine, the official schedule of Victoria and Daniel, who live with their two children at Haga Castle, in Stockholm, will adjust to the situation next week. According to the health agency, Sweden recorded 23,877 new cases on January 5, more than double the numbers at the peak of the epidemic in December 2020. With more than 1.3 million cases since then and with a total of 15,330 deaths, the Nordic government announced. The state has tightened restrictions on remote work, hotels and tourism, among other areas.
The virus has infected other members of the European royal houses. In Greece, King Constantine, 81, brother of Sophia, honorary Queen of Spain, was admitted to hospital last weekend after testing positive. Public information adds that he also had all three vaccinations and was experiencing mild symptoms, although in December he was already in the hospital with pneumonia.
