FIFA announced on Friday the final list of the three nominees to win the FIFA The Best award, which does not include Cristiano Ronaldo. The Manchester United Portuguese striker has lost the race for excellence to Salah (Liverpool), Lewandowski (Bayern) and Messi (Paris Saint-Germain), who will fight each other for excellence to be announced on the 17th. This is the first time that Cristiano Ronaldo has competed for the podium in the The Best Awards. In 2016, the Portuguese star, who was playing for Real Madrid at the time, beat Lionel Messi (2) and Antoine Griezmann (third), and achieved distinction in the first edition. The following year, in 2017, CR7 won again, beating Lionel Messi (second), and Neymar Jr. finished third.
In 2018, he was ranked second with 19.08% of the vote, followed by Salah with 11.23%. It was Modric who won this edition.
Three years ago, Lionel Messi had the most smile, beating the competition – made up of Van Dijk (second) and Cristiano Ronaldo (third) – by 46 votes.
In the last edition, which was held in 2020 (in 2021 it did not happen due to the pandemic), Cristiano Ronaldo again took second place, with Lewandowski at the top, with 52 votes. This year, Lionel Messi came last on the podium.
Recall that the Best Cup award replaced the previous World Player of the Year award, created in 1991, and awarded between 2010 and 2015 along with the Ballon d’Or, from the magazine “France Football”.
Also known are the finalists for The Best Player of the Year this Friday, with Spain’s Jenny Hermoso and Alexia Butillas and Australia’s Sam Kerr vying for the award, which Britain’s Lucy Bronze won in 2020.
