A former Afghan BBC journalist who fled the Taliban has been detained in a refugee camp for several months due to delays in a resettlement plan promised by the UK government.
Mudassar Kadir (not his real name) was the only 14 former BBC journalist to escape the Taliban’s charge in Afghanistan in August. The other 13 are missing.
Kadir, along with his family, hoped to be able to start a new life after leaving Afghanistan, but Kadir, his wife and two children were imprisoned in a refugee center in early October after fleeing with the help of an American charity. On the outskirts of Dubai.
The former journalist is angry that the British government has repeatedly refused to respond to his call for help, and still lives in fear of being deported to Afghanistan, where his journalism work for the BBC has made him a target for the Taliban.
“The UK has a duty to take care of me and my family. My life is in danger because I work for the BBC. The British government knows this, but it has not done me any favors,” he said.
