Valve has confirmed that it is not interested in releasing exclusive games for its portable Steam Deck console.
Confirmation arrived via page Console FAQ, who answered several questions from video game makers and publishers, at a Steamworks event focused on Steam Deck, where Valve confirmed that it will not be releasing exclusive games for its new platform.
Valve’s response to this issue was short and clear: “No, that doesn’t make sense to us. It’s a PC and games should run just like a PC.” The console runs a SteamOS-based software, with only a few differences when it comes to the visual interface, to make it easier to browse the Store and Steam library.
Moreover, the console will allow unrestricted access to other third-party applications. This means that gamers will be able to play games outside of Steam, as the Steam Deck is essentially a console format laptop.
Earlier this month, Valve delayed the launch of Steam Deck by two months, and now the handheld device doesn’t arrive until February 2022.
