The rainy season is favorable for the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits Zika, chikungunya and dengue fever. Therefore, all care must be multiplied by the population.
The latest rapid survey of the Aedes aegypti mosquito infestation (LIRAa), released earlier this month, revealed an index of 4.2% (more than 4 times what the Ministry of Health recommended), illustrating the need for everyone’s participation in the fight against mosquitoes.
The Municipality of Montes Claros, through its Center for Control of Zoonoses (CCZ), is intensifying measures in neighborhoods with the highest levels of mosquito presence, to prevent Aedes breeding. CCZ teams made frequent home visits to identify potential outbreaks. Similarly, some teams have given lectures at companies to raise awareness of the importance of care in their facilities.
It is important to stress that all residents have an essential role in this fight, as 97% of mosquito outbreaks are indoors. Some of the main fighting measures are:
– providing periodic cleaning and sealing of barrels and tanks;
– clean drains weekly and use a fine mesh screen;
– garbage disposal for general collection;
– drain the water from the plant dishes;
Cleaning and draining gutters, panels and swimming pools.
