An Australian journalist has been suspended for two weeks after he admitted during a lengthy interview with Adele not to listen to her new album. But the seriousness of the dilemma is related to the fact that the interview with the artist was part of a special package that allegedly cost Channel Seven about a million dollars.
To make matters worse than the already complicated situation, Adele’s editor has been known to prevent the interview from being broadcast on TV, write the “The Daily Telegraph”.
The interview took place in early November when journalist Matt Doran, presenter of “The Weekend Sunrise”, traveled to London for an exclusive interview with the singer regarding his latest original album “30”, released six years after “25”.
However, it is now known that the journalist will not ask the singer any questions about the new album, according to several sources familiar with the situation told the same publication. When I asked Adele Doran what he thought of her new record, the journalist replied that he hadn’t heard of it yet.
And although at least seven sources have confirmed that Adele boycotted the interview at that very moment, other sources I heard “The Daily Mail” ensure, at that moment, that the interview was indeed over.
The problem is that the exclusive interview with the singer-songwriter was part of a package purchased by Channel 7 that also included the broadcast rights to Adele interview with Oprah Winfrey. In total, the package would have cost a million dollars, but Sony, the publisher that owns the rights to the singer’s work, prevented the interview from airing. It is not known whether the decision will be final or whether it is reversible.
Journalist Matt Doran was suspended for two weeks for allegedly not preparing for the interview properly, but has since returned to work.
As of the date this text was published, Channel 7 has not made any public statement about the situation.
