In the previous poll conducted last July, 51% of respondents disapproved of Bolsonaro, who rated his government as “bad or bad”, according to Folha de S. Paulo newspaper, which is responsible for publishing the poll.
The new poll, which was conducted in person between Monday and Wednesday and heard 3,667 people in 190 municipalities, was conducted a week after the most contentious incidents related to the term of the Brazilian head of state.
On the seventh day, Bolsonaro made serious threats to the country’s institutions, when he encouraged, in front of thousands of supporters, to disobey orders of the Federal Supreme Court and decisions of Parliament contrary to his interests.
His stance caused a massive wave of criticism from parliamentarians, the Supreme Court and even political parties from its allied base, prompting Bolsonaro to retract a “Declaration of the Nation”, in which he asserted that he had no “intent to attack” other powers.
In the poll released today, the head of state was rated “good or excellent” by 22% of respondents, a negative difference compared to the 24% they received in the previous poll, which actually indicated the worst indicator of his presidency.
The percentage of those who consider them “regular” reached 24%, which is the same indicator recorded in July.
The survey’s margin of error is 2 percentage points in both directions.
Jair Bolsonaro’s rejection maintains an upward trend since December of last year.
In this survey, Datafolha identified a more significant increase in president disapproval among those earning five to 10 minimum wage (increase from 41% in July to 50%) and among people over 60 (from 45% to 51 ) %).
Bolsonaro became more dismissive in the North and Midwest regions (16% of the sample), where he usually has more support and where many of the truck drivers who threatened to invade the Federal Supreme Court came in the September 7 demonstrations.
In the evangelical segment, one of the main bases of support for Jair Bolsonaro, the president’s rejection has already risen 11 points since January, and is today higher (41%) than his approval (29%).
Compared to the previous presidents of Brazil now, Bolsonaro is second only to Fernando Collor, who in mid-1992 was already facing the shadow of an impeachment request, which led to his resignation at the end of that year. In that time, Collor was 68% bad/very bad, 21% normal and only 9% good/good.
