Rio de Janeiro will ban people who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 from accessing elective surgeries from September 1, 2021. Ordinance 49334/21, signed by Mayor Eduardo Paes, was published in the Friday edition of the municipality’s Official Gazette.
According to the decree, “From September 1, 2021, prior evidence, by patients, of vaccination against COVID-19, as an exceptional measure of the health interest, is subject to elective surgical procedures in public services, private health care units and health care units that are part of the unified health system in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
For surgical procedures, patients must demonstrate vaccination with the first, second or single dose, according to the schedule set by the municipal health department.
