The 19th edition of the “Saúde em Movimento” project, an initiative aimed at promoting the active and healthy aging of Lagos residents, began on October 1.
The project, which is now subject to quality certification as a “Major Physical Activity Program” under the Friends of Municipal Sports Program promoted by Cidade Social, mainly maintains the characteristics of the previous versions, with maintenance gymnastics, hiking and outdoor activities, health education meetings and sessions .
In the 2021/2022 season, classes will be rescheduled in accordance with the recommendations of the General Directorate of Health and the evolution of the epidemic, with an expected increase in groups due to the need to form groups with a smaller number of participants.
The Rediscover Our Earth program will also continue with new tracks and activities. Appeared in the eighteenth edition, in response to the project’s need to adapt to the epidemic, it consists of walking in different places in the municipality, combining physical activity with the pleasure of getting to know the area.
“Saúde em Movimento” has grown over the years and been adapted to new audiences.
Examples of this expansion are the “ArticuLar” programs targeting institutional seniors, in partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagos, and “Diabetes em Movimento”, a community exercise program for people with type 2 diabetes, implemented under the coordination of the Directorate General Health through the National Program to Promote Physical Activity and the National Diabetes Program.
According to the Lagos Chamber, the report of the eighteenth edition, which accompanies the proposal approved by the Chamber, contains the conclusions of the assessment of physical and functional fitness made at two different times for the participants, indicating improvement in four of the six components that were evaluated, demonstrating the validity of the project viz. Reversing the effects of confinement on users and combating the loss of functional abilities that characterizes aging.
The control population, with a mean age of 72 years, was evaluated on indicators such as strength (upper and lower), flexibility (lower part and arms), reaction speed, cardiovascular balance and endurance.
At the chamber meeting, the municipal executive authority set the conditions for participation in the next season of the project, and approved the draft protocols that will be signed again with the sports clubs in the governorate, which provides its sports technicians for maintenance education.
The Municipal Parish Councils, the Health Center of Lagos, the Municipal Corporation of Lagos em Forma and the Ciência Viva Center of Lagos, which are responsible for promoting “science has no age” training procedures are also partner entities. Resume in 2021/2022 season.
