A South Korean study has concluded that people infected with the delta type of the new coronavirus have a viral load up to 300 times higher than those infected with the original type of virus.
However, the same study concluded that pregnancy gradually decreased over time — to 30 times in four days and more than 10 times in nine days — equal to levels seen in other variables after 10 days, the Prevention and Control Agency announced. Korea (KDCA), The Guardian writes.
The official of the South Korean Ministry of Health, Lee Sang-won, explained at a press conference that the greater burden means that the virus is easier to spread from person to person, which increases the rate of infection and hospitalization.
“This does not mean that delta is 300 times more contagious. The transmission rate of the virus is 1.6 times higher than the alpha variant and about twice the original version of the virus,” he explained.
Delta type of novel coronavirus was first identified in India and it already has 100% spread in Portugal.
South Korean authorities have recommended that people be tested immediately as soon as they develop symptoms of Covid-19.
The rapid spread of the delta variant and low vaccination rates affected much of Asia, especially in emerging economies, forcing the world to fall back on economic recovery.
