The Campinas metropolitan area (RMC) in June reached the largest number of beneficiaries in health plans in the past five years, according to a survey by the National Agency for Complementary Health (ANS). The contracts total 1.379 million after a group of 20 municipalities were registered in the third quarter followed by an increase in those assisted by the private health network.
Before the end of the first half of this year, the district had the largest number of beneficiaries in March 2016, when the total was 1.382 million. The data is released every three months by the sector regulatory institution and the customer considered during the research is the owner of the plan, that is, there may be more people associated with them as dependents. The cities that make up the RMC are: Americana, Artur Nogueira, Campinas, Cosmópolis, Engenheiro Coelho, Holambra, Hortolândia, Indaiatuba, Itatiba, Jaguariúna, Monte Mor, Morungaba, Nova Odessa, Paulínia, Pedreira, Santa Bárbara d’Oeste de Antonio, Possession, sumare, valenhos and grapes.
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the lowest number of beneficiaries was registered in September of last year: 1.331 million contracts between residents and institutions.

Roberto Brito de Carvalho, an economist and professor at PUC-Campinas, assesses that two factors explain the increase in the number of beneficiaries of the plans: People’s concern about ensuring an alternative health care service amid the strain on the Single Health System (SUS) in Covid. 19 pandemic, in addition to improving economic indicators
He explains that “desire, linked to need, has made people give up some things to get or maintain the health plan.” According to him, the opening of jobs and the fact that a part of the workers chose to create an individual small enterprise also contributed to this.
“It’s a small but important indicator of the scenario,” highlights the ANS-verified result.
Looking at the last 12 months, the increase in the number of beneficiaries amounts to 40.3 thousand beneficiaries, which is equivalent to 3%. In June of last year, according to the American News Agency (ANS), the total number was 1.338 million people helped.
In the entire state of São Paulo, the number of winners reaches 17.507 million. The total was 17,012 in June 2020 however the increase in the period corresponds to 2.91%.
