The city council, after a meeting with the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, announced that Cartaxo, located in Santarem province, will own a new health center funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The mayor, Pedro Magalhães Ribeiro, said in a statement that he had received “a guarantee that in Cartaxo a new health center, funded by the so-called ‘European bazooka’” would allow to serve more than 15,000 registered users.
Regarding the location of the new health unit, the mayor added that there are two possibilities in the equation, which is “a municipal land without any building.” “The next step is to schedule a meeting with the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regional Health Department (ARSLVT) to present these two alternatives,” which are “the two alternatives that appear to be more viable, given the location in the city,” he declared.
According to Magalhaes Ribeiro, ARSLVT will provide budget estimates for the classification of infrastructure services, which will replace the current health centre, which is 28 years old. In this sense, there is still no idea of the investment involved.
In the memo published by the local authority, Marta Temedo commented that the new health center “will ensure better working conditions for health professionals, in addition to service to users, and will also make available a greater number of services for health services.”
The Minister of Health also confirmed that the new infrastructure is “already included in the government’s priorities” and that “the ministry has already instructed ARSLVT to start technical work, in partnership with the services of the Kartaxo City Council”.
