Madeira records 42 new cases, and a total of 315 active infections

Among the positives recorded in the past 24 hours, there are 35 cases of local transmission and seven that were imported (four from Lisbon and Valle do Tejo, two from the United Kingdom and one from Russia), bringing the number of confirmed cases to 10,730. covid-19 since the beginning of the epidemic.

So far, the region has recorded a total of 75 deaths associated with the disease.

The regional authority’s data differs from that provided today by the Directorate General of Health, which referred 55 new cases to Madeira, out of a total of 11,126 reported since March 2020 and 72 deaths.

Regarding the isolation of 315 positives, the regional department has reported that nine people are being held at Dr Nelio Mendonca Hospital, Funchal, one of whom is in intensive care, 71 are in a designated hotel unit, the rest remaining on their own accommodation.

In total, there are 31 cases under consideration by health authorities, relating to travelers identified at the airport, contacting positive cases and other cases reported to the SRS24 line or originating from various testing centres.

The Regional Health Directorate states that 526 people are under active monitoring in the various municipalities of Madeira and Porto Santo and 46,124 travelers are being monitored using the Madeira Save app.

Covid-19 has killed at least 435,3003 people worldwide, among the more than 206.7 million new coronavirus infections recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the latest report from AFP.

In Portugal, since March 2020, 17,562 people have died and 1,003,335 cases of infection have been recorded, according to the bulletin of the Directorate General of Health.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which was discovered in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the United Kingdom, India, South Africa, Brazil or Peru.
