Two beautiful goals, dominance and a positive test from the Portuguese U-21 national team. In the next group visit of the European national team, Rui Jorge’s team showed superiority and won fairly in Romania (0-2). The strong position of various athletes used, and in other words, the result could have been a lot more massive.
Seriousness in asserting favoritism. With a competitive spirit and the will of some pieces to show their service to Rui Jorge, the Portuguese fleet dominated the events and allowed rare opponents to get close to the goal of Samuel Soares. Patient football and the ability to find spaces culminated in several dangerous chances.
First night for Tomás Araujo and Dani Silva at Federao Portuguesa de Futebol
The first position was enough for Portugal to cause the Romanian organization to collapse and begin to suffer. After Francisco Conceicao’s side-netting finish, the score was opened moments later. Good work from Pedro Neto and a better shot from Afonso Souza, with goalkeeper Mihai Bouba having no chance to defend.
The Romanians succumbed to temptation and moved into lines, allowing the Portuguese counter-attack to enter and wreak havoc. Henrique Araújo – there was some lack of confidence – was close to scoring, but it ended up being Pedro Neto who moved the mark again, in another great goal. Excellent indications from the winger of returning to this level.
Lots of creativity, but the goals didn’t come back
In the second half, Portugal made a big revolution in the squad – only goalkeeper and duo Thiago Araujo / Alexandre Pinetra remained on the field – with the new faces somewhat asleep in the minutes after the restart. Romania tried to reveal more weapons in the attack, but the intentions yielded few interesting details from Stefan Payaram.
Naturally, the dominance soon passed to the visiting side and chances reappeared in droves. Interesting combinations – good quality from David Costa – however, the most offensive units revealed ineffectiveness. It wasn’t for lack of commitment that the score didn’t have other numbers.
Despite the will, Portugal never messed with opposing networks again. However, the test had a very positive result. Next Tuesday, Norway, an opponent capable of causing other kinds of problems.
