The first week of 2024 starts off well, with the January 1 holiday on Monday. In the last month of the year, the 25th brings an additional gift: Christmas is celebrated on Wednesday, right in the middle of the week, preceded by Tolerance Day, which is usually held at Christmas.
There will be no need to wait until the end of February for the Carnival Tuesday holiday, if the government so decides, which will take place on the 13th. Easter has a long weekend in store for us, the first of the year: it is set for the last day of March, the 11th. The thirtieth, which is expected by the Good Friday holiday on the twenty-ninth.
The 50th anniversary will be celebrated on April 25 on Thursday. Labor Day, May 1, falls on the first Wednesday of the month.
The month of the famous saints brings another long weekend: Juneteenth, Portugal Day, and the Day of Camões and Portuguese Communities, are celebrated on Monday. Residents of Lisbon and other municipalities can celebrate the Thursday of Saint Anthony’s Day in their calendar, June 13.
July and September hold no rest periods for us. The religious holiday of August 15, which marks the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, falls on a Thursday and provides a new bridge, with the possibility of an additional day of rest on Friday.
In total, there are 13 mandatory holidays and one optional (Carnival Day). There is only one holiday on Saturday, October 5th. There are three Sundays: March 31 (Easter), December 1 (Restoration of Independence), and December 8 (Immaculate Conception Day).

Per day June 24 Saint John’s Day is celebrated in cities such as Porto, Braga and Tavira. Hey June 29Saint Peter’s Day is celebrated in Évora, for example.
