The height of 98.1 meters is the tallest since the Apollo era…First half launch at the latest
The era of integrating information technology and existing industries is approaching. IT technologies such as chatbots and self-driving cars are doing things that can only be imagined in real life. Each week, we collect and present IT technologies and trends that are closely related to our daily lives. We will deliver IT news that will enrich our lives. [편집자 주]
The Space Launch System (SLS), a rocket developed by NASA for the manned exploration of the Moon and Mars, was launched at 5:47 p.m. the same day (6:47 a.m. on the 18th in Korea), a fantastic rocket. – A large transport platform called “crawler” – Carrier 2″ (CT-2) has begun moving toward the launch pad of the Kennedy Space Center assembly building in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The missile is 98.1 meters long and 32 stories high. The SLS is the largest rocket since the Apollo era. In a live broadcast on the Internet on the same day, NASA expressed its prediction that “humanity will soon enter a new era of exploration.”
Thousands of NASA employees and citizens gathered at the site, including former Apollo 10 captain Tom Stafford. This was broadcast live on NASA TV and websites.
The SLS equipped with a manned ‘Orion’ capsule weighed about 2,500 tons and traveled slowly for more than 11 hours to launch Site 39B, which is about 6.5 km away, and was built on the launch pad.
The launcher-based missile will undergo a two-day “wet abrasion training”, a final functional check before launch on the 3rd of next month. This is the ultimate test of shooting countdown practice like in real life.
An overhaul of the system will be done, including filling the fuel tank with 700,000 gallons of coolant fuel and then igniting the four R-25 engines.
According to the results of the WDR, the launch schedule of “Artemis I”, which enters the lunar orbit of the UAV, has been determined. It is expected to be released in May at the latest and late June at the latest.
After the SLS is in low Earth orbit, the upper rocket is used to perform a “transmission low spin” (TLI). In the Orion capsule, a doll that will collect radioactive data in place of the astronauts and a Snoopy doll, NASA’s mascot, enter lunar orbit before returning to Earth.
In the process, he has been tasked with installing 10 CubeSat satellites that will collect scientific data from deep space.
The Artemis II flight, to be carried out by astronauts, is scheduled for 2024, and the Artemis III flight, where women and astronauts of color land at the Moon’s south pole, in 2025, a year later.
It is known that NASA plans to continue exploration of manned Mars by searching for permanent housing on the Moon and using it as a forward base.
