According to Bibiana Leite, director of content partnerships development for the video service and president of YouTube Black in Brazil, the platform is focused on educating the public about racial justice, as well as helping black artists thrive in the ecosystem.
“The YouTube Black community is filled with creative, passionate, talented, wonderful and passionate people. We are honored to give these creators the resources to continue expanding their voices. We want to deliver new narratives that emphasize the intellectual strength, authenticity, dignity, and fun of black voices.”
In 2020, the company pledged to invest $100 million (540 million R$) in the program dedicated to amplifying and developing black voices and stories for at least three years. In 2021, 35 black Brazilian creators and artists and the YouTube Originals Creator Spotlight, which launched in November, received support from the initiative.
“Black creators have played an important role in shaping the culture on YouTube. From fashion and comedy to politics, learning and luxury, black creatives have supported our platform,” the platform said.
