Xbox Game Studios Publishing has appointed Kim Swift, Principal Designer at Portal, as Senior Director of its Cloud Games Division.
on one tweet, the Xbox publisher announced that Swift’s hiring aims to “accelerate innovation and collaborate with independent studios to create games for the cloud.”
Swift is an expert in this field and has had a long and producing career, leaving her mark in several major studios. In addition, there are assignments at Amazon and EA, having recently taken over as Creative Director at Playa Vista Studios, a subsidiary of Google Stadia.
Playa Vista closed its doors earlier this year with Google’s decision to close its in-house development studios, which marked a mass exit for notables like Jade Raymond and John Justice.
Swift’s hiring comes as Xbox Game Studios Publishing strives to promote its “three core pillars:” community, innovation and inclusion.
Xbox wants to promote these values in collaboration with independent producers, a relationship that has already led to games like Ori, Blind Forest, The Dusk Falls and the recently announced Contraband, created in partnership with Avalanche Studios.
