Epidemiology of monkeypox (Monkey disease) shows signs of stability among Britons, the UK Health Protection Agency (Ukhsa) reported. Despite the current progress, officials explain that it is too early to say this is a plateau point on the epidemiological curve.
“We cannot afford to be complacent,” says Meera Chand, director of clinical and emerging infections at UXA. Chand insists that while the distribution of monkeypox vaccines in the UK is apparently under control, safety measures are still important.
“If you’re worried you might have monkeypox symptoms, take a break from events,” advises Chand. He explains that during this time, close contacts should be postponed. Additionally, the person must “contact your service.” Health center for counselling,” he added.
At this time, more than 2,800 cases of monkeypox were recorded in the UK, most of which were concentrated in London. The median age of the cases was 37 years and almost all were male.
Monkey disease vaccination in England
The UK Health Service offers free vaccinations to control monkey fever. Its aim is to immunize individuals at high risk of infection, thereby breaking the chain of transmission, as shown by epidemiological data. More than 100,000 vaccinations were received.
In July, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global outbreak of monkey flu a public health emergency of international concern. This is the highest alert level in the organization. In Brazil, the Ministry of Health has already counted 2,004 cases of the disease and the movement is not as steady as seen in the United Kingdom.
