The Cortas Film Festival, which takes place in Vila do Conde, Porto region, will once again present a mixed version this year, with performances in the concert hall and on digital platforms, due to the emergencies of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This Portuguese International Short Film Festival will be held from July 16-25, in this location on the northern coast of the country, and in this 2021 edition it will highlight the work of four directors, Iranian duo Ali Asgari and Farnoush Samadi, of Greek Jacqueline Lentzo and Portuguese Jorge Yacom.
According to the organization, these filmmakers’ work “reveals a contemporary, pioneering, and sometimes subversive approach that pushes the boundaries of genres and dares to experiment with the boundaries of cinematic language.”
The works of these four directors will be part of the festival’s non-competitive sections and, according to event officials, “opens a gateway to contemporary thinking for a new generation of filmmakers who, in addition to their aesthetic significance, are elevating new interpretations of today’s political problems.”
Curtas Vila do Conde is an international film festival, created in 1993, which has already become one of the main cinematic and cultural events in Portugal dedicated to short films. This year marks its twenty-ninth edition.
