A meteor passed over the territory of four municipalities in Santa Catarina on Thursday, 22. This phenomenon was captured by a camera in Monte Castillo, north of Santa Catarina, at 19:26.
Amateur astronomer Josemar Justino says the event lasted about three seconds and the speed was estimated at more than 60,000 kilometers per hour. He explains that this type of meteorite is not rare. “Although it was very beautiful, the glow was not so intense that it was classified as a fireball or a fireball.”
In addition to Monte Castillo, the meteorite passed over the territory of Itaiopolis, also in the north of the state, Santa Teresina, in the Alto Valle do Itajay, and Santa Cecilia, in the Serra Santa Catarina.

When a meteorite impacts, Josimar says, residents can report to Bramon, Brazil’s meteorite monitoring network.
There is a quick form that anyone can fill out online. Bramon requests information to analyze what happened and contribute to studies of meteorites around the world.
The system calculates the place of occurrence of the phenomenon through the reports sent. “This is very important because the cameras do not always record,” Josemar notes.
