Vaccination of adolescents against Covid-19 will resume next Wednesday (8) in the city of Rio, and the application of doses to this public has been suspended for six days. 15-year-old girls will be able to get the vaccination on the eighth and ninth days, according to the Municipal Health Department (SMS). On Friday, it will be the turn of the boys of the same age.
“We will be able to resume vaccination. We are closing this new balance back to early Wednesday,” confirmed Daniel Sorans, Municipal Health Secretary.
SMS suspended vaccination against Covid-19 for teenagers last Wednesday due to the lack of new doses. That day was designated to immunize adolescents 16 years of age or older.

Doses donated by São Gonçalo
On Monday afternoon, the city of Rio received 4,830 doses of Pfizer donated by the Municipal Health Department of São Gonçalo. The doses were sent to DC because the batch had a shelf life of up to Monday (6), and it would not be used. According to Sorans, the vaccines were distributed in large capacity stations in the western region, thus ensuring full use, and avoiding waste.
As a result, in the late afternoon, the lines at Cidade das Artes post, for example, were long. However, the balance for the day, city-wide, was 48,909 applied doses, of which 9,216 were from the first dose, and 38.77 from the second and 916 were booster doses in ILPI institutions. The order came in below expectations, according to the secretary, mainly due to the holiday.
“We were planning to implement 52,000 doses of the second dose, but the demand was much lower than expected,” Sorans said.
More than 365,000 doses of vaccine from Pfizer arrived in Rio de Janeiro this weekend. According to the State Department of Health (SES), the immunizations were delivered by the Department of Health on Saturday night, the 4th, and on Sunday, the 5th, to the General Storage Coordination (CGA) for the file. The shipment is for the first and second doses of the vaccination schedule. On Monday, the sixth, according to the SES, many were delivered to cities that are removing the fortification factor: Rio de Janeiro, Niteroi, São Gonçalo, Marica, Itaboraí and Volta Redonda.
