LONDON, 9 August 2021 (AFP) – The country hosting the COP26 climate conference in November, the United Kingdom, called for human life and action on a stern warning planet in a report by the United Nations (IPCC) on Monday (9).
This first assessment report in seven years, adopted by 195 countries on Friday (6), states that humans are “undoubtedly responsible” for climate change and that if they want to control climate change, they have no choice but to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This shocking observation creates a “severe warning to scientists around the world,” the British government said in a statement about the “frightening speed at which human activity could harm the planet.”
“Before we meet for the important COP26 summit in Glasgow in November, the IPCC report is a sign that the world is paying attention,” said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
According to the conservative leader, “the next decade will be decisive for the future of our planet”.
“We know what needs to be done to control global warming: forgetting coal and switching to renewable energy sources, conserving nature and financing the climate,” he said.
