The United Kingdom Conservative Party has announced that it will hold a referendum this Tuesday (July 23, 2024) to determine a new leader. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was defeated in the July 4 election, is expected to remain in office until a replacement is appointed.

The process is divided into 5 phases and lasts over 3 months. Registration starts next Wednesday (July 24). Read the process steps:
- Party members can register for a contest as long as they have the support of 10 MPs (July 24 to July 29);
- Members of Parliament vote among all candidates, 4 in the running (September);
- Candidates launch their key proposals at the party convention, 2 are in the running for online voting (September 29 to October 2);
- Voting closes (Oct 31);
- Announcement of new conservative leader (2.nov).
