By combining all the devices on which TikTok is already installed around the world, as well as the equipment where the Chinese version Douyin is installed, there are more than three billion records. According to data from Sensor Tower, this is the first non-Facebook-owned app to reach this milestone — remember, Facebook owns the monolithic platform, but also owns Instagram and WhatsApp.
The same analysis shows that TikTok was the most downloaded non-game app worldwide in the first half of this year: nearly 383 million initial installs and an estimated consumer spending of $919.2 million.
While new downloads are down 38% from a year earlier (nearly 619 million in the first half of 2020), app-related consumer spending is up 73% (from $530.2 million in the same period last year).
SocialMediaToday considers this change in growth dynamics essential for TikTok, as the ability to convert users into revenue will be a more important indicator in terms of business. More money will also be necessary to continue developing and introducing new tools that keep users interested and creative.
