Tianhe-3: The power of a new supercomputer
According to TheNextPlatform, details of Tianhe-3's power have not been released, but it is speculated that the supercomputer will reach a maximum performance of 2.05 exaflops and maintain an average performance of 1.57 exaflops, making it “the most powerful machine ever built. On Earth.”
Even after the introduction of “El Capitan” which is being developed by HP, AMD and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in America, it should be the most powerful in the world.
Regarding the technical specifications, TheNextPlatform speculates that the Tianhe-3 will use a hybrid device with a CPU and compute accelerator and three different types of memory. The processor is developed and manufactured by SMIC (Semicconductor Manufacturing International Corp), China's largest chip manufacturer.
Already in operation, Tianhe-3 is intended to be used specifically by researchers at the Guangzhou National Supercomputing Center, which provides services to the entire Guangzhou province.
