In the midst of national exams, the Spanish website ABC Sociedade highlights a course that is not usually chosen in universities, but that has a 100% employability. This is the degree in agricultural engineering that, unlike today, was in high demand in the 1990s.
Currently, students choose other types of engineering, since agricultural engineering is not very attractive to young people, who associate this word with the need to work in this field, explains Rosario Haro, Deputy Director of Academic Planning at the Escola Técnica Superior de Agricultural. Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
Rosario Haro describes agronomy studies as “the great unknown of biotechnologies” and believes that it was not possible to properly convey to students what the course consisted of and its importance.
Young people who embark on this course are highly sought after by companies and their employability is practically certain when they leave university. However, there has been a marked decline in agricultural engineering course enrollment, despite there being a “real need” on the part of companies to hire profiles who attend these courses.
