The National School of Public Health (ENSP-NOVA) will collaborate with Portuguese municipalities in organizing training projects and technical support for the development of health plans, following a protocol that will be signed today.
According to the educational institution, the agreement between the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) and the National School of Public Health of Universidad Nova de Lisbon will be signed this afternoon, during a conference to be held at Culturgest.
The protocol between the two institutions provides for “organizing training projects to train professionals and leaders in various areas of public health, and technical support for the development of health plans in municipalities,” and defining the features and needs of each independent system, according to a press release issued by ENSP-NOVA.
Reported in the note, Director of ENSP-Nova, points out that “the formulation of strategies and policies based on scientific evidence allows to support more effective and sustainable decisions and to increase the resilience of the health system itself, contributing to more appropriate responses and solutions to health challenges specific to each municipality.”
The partnership is created in a context in which competencies in the field of health are transferred to the municipalities.
“We add the school’s technical and scientific knowledge in these areas, to the knowledge of those in structures close to the municipalities with the population, which allows for a more direct and effective action, establishing a more human and personal relationship, less bureaucratic answers and greater social participation in decision-making in the interests of the population they represent”, Sonia Dias justifies.
The ENSP-Nova Director also highlights “extensive experience of collaborative work with local authorities in skills promotion and lifelong learning, as well as in projects in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention”.
About a month ago, the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abronhosa, said that about 50% of the municipalities had already signed the transfer of competencies from the central administration to the local administration in the field of health.
