Summer is the time of sun and sea. Who doesn't want to get that tan? However, this requires some care, as too much exposure to radiation can cause burns, heat stroke, dehydration, and can even lead to hospitalization in healthcare units.
In an interview with Bahia spokeIt's time for some of the most common diseases and conditions, says general practitioner Silvestre Sobrinho.
He explained, “In the summer, people are exposed more to the sun's rays, and therefore they sweat more, and this causes burns, dehydration, and sunstroke.”
The doctor continued: “Prolonged exposure to sunlight, especially during critical periods, that period from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., increases the risk of burns and sunstroke, which can be a serious condition that requires hospitalization.”
To avoid this type of situation, one of the key points is to drink fluids. The medical recommendation is to consume at least 2.5 liters per day to avoid dehydration.
“This can be avoided by wearing hats, wearing filtered clothing, and even using sunscreen, which should be applied half an hour before exposure to the sun to allow enough time for it to be absorbed, and then repeat every two to three hours normally, during this period. The specialist says: “Trying to get wet; “And look for well-ventilated environments, to reduce the chance of direct heat impact, especially with such prolonged exposure.”
The food and the crowds
It is also important to be careful about your diet at this time of year. According to the doctor, this is the period in which most cases of food poisoning are recorded. According to him, some measures should be taken to avoid gastrointestinal viruses, which are caused by enteroviruses.
“Food poisoning is also very common. It is a time when people consume food without much worry. We suggest foods that are less fried, healthier, and look and smell better. Also pay attention to the expiry dates of these foods, and their food conditions,” explains the doctor.
Other precautions that must be taken include crowding and sharing personal belongings, such as towels, to avoid skin diseases and fungal proliferation.
“Sharing spaces and crowding, such as swimming pools and changing rooms, where microorganisms multiply, increases the incidence of skin diseases, especially with the multiplication of fungi. Therefore, sharing towels and walking barefoot in these environments should be avoided.”
Finally, Silvestre Sobrinho stressed that summer is one of the seasons that requires special care as temperatures rise.
“Therefore, it is a season that has the specificity of causing more viral cases, causing more temperature increases with their consequences. It is not only in the summer that we must take these measures, we must take them all year round, but especially in the summer because Holidays, trips, crowds, many parties and popular demonstrations.
