In order to prevent diseases caused by mosquitoes Aedes aegyptiOn Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd, a spraying operation was carried out throughout the Rio Branco prison complex both inside and outside the buildings. This measure is being implemented by the Municipality of Río Branco, through the Municipal Health and Epidemiological Surveillance Department, in partnership with the State Government, through the Institute of Prison Administration (Iapen).
The general supervisor of epidemiological surveillance in Rio Branco, Roniel Freitas, explained that the main focus of the work is to eliminate the mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever. “Here at the prison, an official request has been made to spray the area. “So, we came here to impose a blockade, as it is a quick interruption to mosquito transmission.”
The events began in the Antonio Amaro Alves prison, then moved to the temporary detention unit (URP), the closed order unit (URF), and finally the women's prison. Spraying was done first inside buildings, including cells, and then continued outside.
Johnis Araujo, interim director of the women's prison, stressed the importance of working within the prison unit. “It helps us a lot, both in terms of the health of the prisoners and the staff. Moreover, when the inmates get sick and need to be transferred to the health units, there is a security and logistical issue, which requires a great effort on the part of the unit and the state, in order to go outside, and to act preventively, It's always much better.
Alexandre Nascimento, President of Iapen, thanked the Rio Branco City Council for providing this measure within the prison system. “We have noticed an increase in dengue cases in the city, so this raised concern on the part of the administration, as it was necessary to make a formalization, a letter to the city council, so that we can invest in this measure and, in a way, work on the preventive aspect of the health issue for each “Who lives and works in this environment. So thank you for responding to our request.”
