The Minister of Health, Paulette Lennert, inaugurated the new facilities for this “home medicine”, in the nation’s capital, on Thursday.
The new health emergency center in Val Fleury opened on 2 September.
Today, Thursday, Minister of Health Paulette Linert inaugurated the new facilities of the medical center, which move from rue Michel Welter to 23 Val Fleury, near the Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), in the presence of Maurice Bauer, consultant. from Luxembourg City, and Guillaume Steichen, Secretary General of the Association of Physicians and Dentists (AMMD).
Until the opening of the new facilities on September 2, the medical center will remain in service in the current structure.
There are three emergency health centers in the country (medical homes, in French) established in the center, south and north of the country to ensure continuity of medical care, emergencies outside the hospital, outside public office hours (nights, weekends and holidays). However, according to the government, the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the inadequacy of existing medical centers to deal with the growing number of patients, both in the context of permanent care and in the face of a health crisis.
“The opening of this new medical center represents an important step forward in improving care and patient journeys and meeting new healthcare demands,” said Paulette Lehnert.
The Minister of Health explained that in the new health center, “patients are received in their best condition and will no longer need to go directly to the emergency room for minor health problems that do not justify closing the hospital’s emergency room.”
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, the Val Fleuri Center will allow patients who need permanent care, within the framework of general medicine, as well as patients who need special care (for example, with symptoms of covid-19), to be housed in separate sectors of the building. These will also have the necessary storage capacity in the event of a pandemic and will contain the latest technical equipment.
This new structure is set up to provide additional and multidisciplinary services, if necessary, according to the needs of the residents, with larger and more spacious areas and better access to cars and public transport.
For Guillaume Steichen, AMMD General Secretary, “The opening of this new medical center reflects the political will to improve primary care visibility, and the appreciation of the GP/family physician.”
“The family physician who provides primary care should be the cornerstone of everyone’s medical path, especially for patients with chronic diseases.”
Also in September, the Esch-sur-Alzette Medical Center will move from Avenue du Swing to Belval-Sanem in the Southlane Tower, near Belval train station. The Ettelbruck Medical Center will be integrated into the new “Ettelbréck ONE” project (on the former site of the Heintz van Landewyck factory at 86 Avenue des Alliés).
The new medical centres, which can be modified according to health needs, are a strategic link for the government in regulating primary care in Luxembourg.
Remember that to make appointments at the centers, users must use the following email addresses:

Appointments can also be made by phone at (+352) 20333111, from 7 pm on weekdays and from 7 am on weekends and holidays.
The Ministry of Health statement also states that in the absence of a family doctor and the necessity of resorting to clinical evaluation for health reasons, the user can schedule an appointment at the nearest emergency medical center. After midnight, it is necessary to call 112, and the call is transferred to the doctor on duty in the medical center, who will call the patient, and the doctor can, if necessary, conduct a home consultation, depending on availability, diseases and user condition.
